The Zihuatanejo Beach Retreat is no place like home – no roads, no phones, no stress, no mess, not even many people.   Just seven rustic, free-standing bungalows nestled beneath the towering trees of a working coconut plantation. It is located on a point of land that juts into the bay at the seaward end of Las Gatas Beach. This two acre property is located at a former Nature Study Center developed by author and naturist Owen Lee, in the 1970's who worked under the captainship of Jacque Coustaeu as cameraman and later spokesperson.

Accessible only by a shuttle boat from Zihuatanejo’s only pier, it offers surfers the longest point break on the west coast of Mexico.  Snorkelers enjoy the beautiful barrier reef that teems with sea life and protects the shallow swimming lagoon that is ideal for children. Meanwhile, a dozen gourmet seafood restaurants beckon from the quarter mile long palm-lined beach and the lush tropical jungles of the sierra Madres behind it.

This unique beach retreat occupies an old coconut plantation that juts into the Bay of Zihuatanejo at the seaward end of Las Gatas Beach, offering a 250 degree view of the entire Bay and the only seaside accommodations on the entire beach.  Nestled beneath the towering coco palms of a spacious tropical garden, three  seaside Polynesian-style bungalows accommodate up to 19 people, while offering the ultimate experience in peaceful south sea island living amidst the splendors of nature.

Accessible only by a short boat ride from the village pier ($4 USD round trip), Las Gatas Beach is a quarter mile long crescent of golden, palm-lined sand with a legendary barrier reef.  The reef forms a protected swimming lagoon on one side and a snorkel and scuba diver's paradise on the other.  When "the surf's up", the Beach Retreat offers surfers the best point break on the entire pacific coast of Mexico.  A taxi boat pier, a scuba school and a dozen gourmet seafood restaurants await just a short walk down the beach.  Private boat service to and from the Retreat on request costs $8 usd.
